Why was K035 a colony?
Seems kind of odd since the were their own nation.

Most likely was originally a colony in ancient times and kept the term colony for traditions sake.

Zordon let Dark Spector conquer KO35 do get rid of disloyalists. All his chosen people went to KO35/ The plan backfired when Spector came back to invade the colony decades later.

I think its like in Battlestar Galactica where they called themselves colonies but were really independent.
