Default Why didn't Zordon just recharge Tommy's powers in Green Candle?

If the option was available, why didn't Zordon just charge his powers right away? instead of waiting for Return of An Old Friend. ,

Zordon was testing Tommy to see how he would react to not being a Ranger. He had to make sure he was controllable. Besides, it was very dangerous for Zordon. He wouldn't risk his life unless he had too.

In Return Of An Old Friend the Rangers lost their coins. If Rita conquered the Earth, he would be finished anyway.

It wasn't safe to do the charging. They only did it in Return because it was a last ditch option. Tommy and Zordon both almost died. Also the charge barely lasted for one battle. The full temporary recharge of Tommy's powers were a fluke after he absorbed energy from the other coins. Which left him in bad shape for a bit.

Also there may have been side effects to Rita's spell that would have just caused the power to go to her. Given the coin to Jason seemed to nulify her hold on the coin. But by that point there wasn't enough power left to do a full morph. The coin became a cruder version of a battlizer basically.

It was all because Saban was too cheap to pay for new Green Ranger footage right away. And couldn't even order enough to keep the Green Ranger on the show for the long term.

He seemed to be brought back pretty quickly to me. Paying for Toei to produce more footage for season 1 was far from cheap. Saban Entertainment didn't have to do that. Then they went on to spend more money in season 2. And even after they ran out of Green Ranger footage, they still brought Tommy in as White. Even with Dairanger Footage, they still had to shoot a lot of original footage. Especially since the MMPR Rangers weren't wearing the Dairanger costumes. I wouldn't have brought Tommy back as White Ranger, but thats another argument.

I will say I actually enjoyed the full Green Ranger storyline and feel like they did everything right. Tommy was at his best. The power loss storyline made his character interesting. And was much better then the overpowered mess his character became as White Ranger.

It all worked out in the end. Since Power Rangers needed Tommy. Zordon probably didn't want to risk Tommy getting hurt. It was a smart decision. Tommy needed some time off anyway.

The episode was my favorite. Since thats when Kim and Tommy finally got together.

This just shows how awesome MMPR was. And why the current Power Rangers Series just can't hold a candle. Only Ninja Steel came close and that took more then a decade. I really wish MMPR would make a come back. And not like it did in that movie.

Sentai handled the Green Ranger much better. As Burai's story was so tragic and heroic. American Sentai always fails to adapt these type of storylines properly.

Which is why I am glad they finally gave us dubbed Zyuranger... Even if it took way too long. They should just show this instead of any MMAS reruns they might want to show on Nick.
