I think it was more that the Carona Aurora chose Mack over Flurious. Thats why he went down so easily. Mack had more heart. The villains never realized how the Crown would reject evil.

Thats actually a good theory. Its the best I have heard and would almost explain that oddity. Not sure if I buy it personally but good try.
