A reason why Saban makes red the leader
I have come to the conclusion that Saban ha always
been making the Red rangers leaders since they're always in the center of cockpits of Megazords. As for why they had a White Ranger be the leader and "outrank" red, the reason I thought of is this. To my knowledge, they weren't going to have Tommy return after he lost his powers as the Green Ranger the second time around. However, they brought him back to the show due to popular demand, thus he was made the White Ranger, as well as the new leader. It probably didn't matter since Jason was going to leave the show anyway, and be replaced by Rocky. Rocky probably wouldn't have made a good leader for the simple fact that he was new, and his character doesn't seem suitable for leadership to some people. So when they tok the suits from Kakuranger to use for the Alien Rangers, they had a white suit. So therefore, since white seemed to outrank red, they probably decided that they might as well just make the White Alien Ranger the leader, despite the fact that she'd be female. After all, a male would look silly in a two-piece ranger suit.

Jason was chosen to be the leader since Zordon described him as "bold and powerful". Tommy as the Green Ranger wouldn't have made a good second-in-command. He was pretty much used as a "last minute" ranger, and he definitely wouldn't have been of any good use as a second-in-command during the time when he was in danger of losing his powers. As for Rocky, he might not have been useful as a leader, but he played the role of second-in-command well whenever Tommy wasn't around.

Jason was also a sixth ranger in Zeo. Since he was a leader, he'd make a good second-in-command. There have been times when he has had to play that role, and he did it rather well.

T.J. was simply the chosen leader by Tommy because he saved him, and was courageous and strong. Then he and the other former Turbo Rangers met Andros, who was already a Red Ranger. He'd be the better Space Ranger leader since he was one of the first Space Rangers. T.J. and the others were just newcomers. Zhane was only a good second-in-command after he solved the problem with his powers. Even Zhane has played the role of second-in-command well.

Leo was chosen to be the Galaxy Rangers leader simply by destiny. Mike would have been the better leader if he hadn't fallen into the crevice. Leo tried to save him, but Mike just decided to just fall into the crevice on purpose, and give the Quasar Saber to Leo. Mike was destined to come back as the Magna Defender anyway. Mike could have even chosen another Quasar Saber besides the red one, but I guess it was by destiny that he pulled it out anyway. Mike seems like he would have made a better leader than Leo though. There have been times where Leo has doubted himself as a leader, and wondered why Mike had to fall into the crevice. When Mike returned, Leo felt guiltiy and thought that it would only be right to take the powers, since he was the one who pulled the Quasar Saber from the stone. Even so, Mike explained to Leo that the Quasar Saber shares his heart and soul, and that destiny doesn't make mistakes.

In Rescue, Captain Mitchell already had background checks on his future Lightspeed Rangers, and thought Carter would be the better leader. You can also consider the fact that the occupation of firefighter is the most dangerous. So if Carter has enough guts for that, then why not make him the leader? Chad is shy, and Joel's ego wouldn't be much help to him if he was the leader. If sixth rangers are second-in-commands, then Ryan wouldn't have been good for that most of the times. Diabolico threatened his life with a curse, and then he left for a while.

In Time Force, the tradition of Red Rangers being leaders is said to be broken, since the Pink Time Force Ranger will allegedly be the leader. We've already been treated to a female ranger leader before, but next year, she'll be human, and it'll last more than two weeks. |

Re: A reason why Saban makes red the leader
Here's another thought that I had.

While
MMPRs2 (Dairanger) was going on here in the US, Kakuranger was going on in Japan. The White Ranger in Kakuranger is the leader, even though female. Saban probably knew he wanted to use the Kakuranger suits for the Alien Rangers in the future. So since the White Ranger in Kakuranger is the leader, Saban decided to make Tommy the leader when he was going to become the White Ranger.

I made a mistake on how MegaBlack was the leader of the Megarangers. It's actually MegaRed who was the leader. It's just that MegaBlack had to play the role of leader sometimes. TimePink is the leader in Timeranger, and the Pink Time Force Ranger is allegedly supposed to be the leader in Time Force. So which ever color ranger is the leader in a Sentai, Saban would probably make that person the leader. It would be nice to see a girl in a Red Ranger suit, but Pink and Yellow Ranger suits are better for girls in my opinion anyway. |

Re: A reason why Saban makes red the leader
WRONG..MegaBlack was the leader in MegaRanger it
was stated VERY CLEARLY when MegaSilver made his appearance and called MegaBlack "THE LEADER OF THE MEGARANGER!" as well as having it stated in various Sentai magazines and Toei Official site in description on the characters PLUS having it mentioned on the show various time. |
