Default Power Rangers Mysteries

found this on www.rangercentral.com and thought I'd post here.

In Countdown to Destruction, Zordon's energy wave purged the universe of evil. So why, in later series, are there evil beings?

Argument #1
This question is brought up by fans time after time after time. But it doesn't need to be. It is a widespread misconception that Zordon actually said that his energy would destroy all evil in the universe. He never said that. This is what he did say:

"Shatter my energy tube .. Only the good energy from my tube can destroy the forces of evil."

"Forces of evil" is a vague term, but by no means should it be interpreted as "all evil in the universe". That would be a gross presumption. More likely, it meant the "evil forces" attacking the universe at the time.

Conclusion
Seeing as how much evil remains in the universe, and how Zordon never even said that his energy would destroy all evil in the universe, it can be concluded that the energy wave only destroyed the forces attacking the universe at the time.

There is some argument as to the exact location of Mirinoi, and the origin of Scorpius and Trakeena. Was Mirinoi in the Lost Galaxy? Are Scorpius and Trakeena from the Lost Galaxy?

Argument #1
In the first episode of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Maya was transported to Earth's moon through a rift in space. At this point, it was never said that this rift led to the Lost Galaxy. There was absolutely no mention of the Lost Galaxy. Eventually, Scorpius and his crew followed, entering our area of space through another, similar rift. It was presumed that Maya, Mirinoi, and Scorpius were from the Lost Galaxy merely because of the title of the show. Seems like a valid enough presumption. Until towards the end of the series. Suddenly, the Rangers found themselves in a strange, new galaxy. They did not return to the Lost Galaxy, they entered the Lost Galaxy. The way in which they reacted to this strange new environment, the marvel everyone, including Maya showed at being there, the fear shown by Trakeena upon almost entering it, and the sheer difficulty of actually entering it make it painfully clear that this was not the same place we saw in Quasar Quest. To top it off, Terra Venture found Mirinoi upon exiting the Lost Galaxy. Are we to presume that the entire planet was somehow transported from the Lost Galaxy into ours? Why presume that, when the simplest, neatest answer is right before your eyes?

Argument #2
The series was called "Lost Galaxy" for a reason. The Lost Galaxy is the origin for the powers, enemies, and allies of the Rangers, not simply the setting for a story arc late into the series. The Rangers entered "dimensional" portals to reach Mirinoi, and it's place in space at the time looked nothing like it did later on at the end of the series.

Conclusion
Although there is not enough information to definitively conclude whether Mirinoi was in the Lost Galaxy or not, these two theories incorporate all evidence, and present no inconsistencies:

Theory A
In the Lost Galaxy, Scorpius and his minions attack a planet called Mirinoi. Portals open near Earth, allowing the Rangers to go to Mirinoi and bring back Maya and the Quasar Sabers. Magna Defender and the Scorpion Stinger soon followed, also entering our galaxy through portals. The portals soon closed, and Terra Venture continued its journey while the Scorpion Stinger followed it, plotting against the Rangers. The crew of the Scorpion Stinger are from our galaxy, but they became trapped in the Lost Galaxy, explaining Trakeena's knowledge of Astronema.

The Galaxy Book from the alien ship was brought to Terra Venture by Leo. Deviot eventually got a hold of it, and transported Terra Venture into the Lost Galaxy. Trakeena dared not re-enter it, for fear of becoming trapped in it again. Her crew, not being from the Lost Galaxy, refer to it as the most mysterious place in the universe from which no one could escape. The Galaxy Book was used to bring Terra Venture back into our galaxy. In doing so, another portal brought the planet Mirinoi into our galaxy as well, placing it in an identical orbit around an identical sun in another solar system.

Terra Venture crashed on one of Mirinoi's moons, and the inhabitants evacuated and fled to Mirinoi, where they populated it as the new world.

Theory B
Far away from Earth, Scorpius and his minions attack a planet called Mirinoi. Portals open near Earth, allowing the Rangers to go to Mirinoi and bring back Maya and the Quasar Sabers. Magna Defender and the Scorpion Stinger soon followed, also entering our part of the galaxy through portals. The portals soon closed, and Terra Venture continued its journey while the Scorpion Stinger followed it, plotting against the Rangers.

The Galaxy Book from the alien ship was brought to Terra Venture by Leo. Deviot eventually got a hold of it, and transported Terra Venture into the Lost Galaxy. Trakeena dared not enter the Lost Galaxy, her crew describing it as the most mysterious place in the universe from which no one could escape. The Galaxy Book was used to bring Terra Venture back into our galaxy. The space station emerged near the location of Mirinoi, from where the Scorpion Stinger had originally been transported near Earth.

Terra Venture crashed on one of Mirinoi's moons, and the inhabitants evacuated and fled to Mirinoi, where they populated it as the new world.

What happened to the Zeo Crystal? Are they related to the Turbo Powers?

Argument #1
Turbo - A Power Rangers Movie marked the transition from Zeo to Turbo. No mention was made of the source of the Turbo Powers, nor what became of the Zeo Crystal. By all appearances, the Zeo Powers were simply dropped, the Zeo Crystal kept intact and in storage, and a new, more powerful source was obtained to fuel the Zeo Powers. Some believe that the Zeo Crystal was used to power the Turbo Powers, but there is no evidence to support this.

Argument #2
The Zeo Crystal couldn't unlock the dimensional gateway to the Island of Muranthia, so they had to switch to the Turbo Powers to get there.

Argument #3
It was always my belief that the Zeo Crystal was simply modified into Turbo Technology. In the Turbo Movie, we see the Zeo Powers in action. Then we see the Rangers creating their own powers. Why would they start from scratch to build something of their own when the Zeo Crystal was the then "most powerful thing in the universe?" The Power Chamber did not recieve any new resources to create something stronger than the crystal. That's why I believe that the Zeo Powers were upgraded into Turbo Powers.

Argument #4
I personally think that the Turbo powers were derived in some way from the Zeo powers. Zordon apparently knew that there would come a time when even the Zeo Crystal (despite its status as the most powerful artifact in the universe) would not be strong enough for the Rangers to overcome whatever foes they might face. However, it wouldn't make sense for him to discard the crystal, either, due to its inherent power. Therefore, it would make sense that Zordon would want to find a way to utilize the Zeo Crystal while still upgrading the Rangers' powers. By harnessing a portion of the Zeo Subcrystals' power and using it to create the Turbo powers and Zords, Zordon could leave the crystals, still embued with some power of their own, intact and in the possession of the Rangers.

Argument #5
The Zeo crystal still lies in the ruins of the power chamber, thought destroyed (by Andros and Zhane who both proably knew of it) or forgotten by the Turbo team, and unknown to all the newer teams.

Conclusion
There is no evidence to suggest that the Zeo Crystal was the basis for the Turbo Powers. Any theory proposing this is purely speculative. The appearance of both Red Zeo and Turbo Rangers in Forever Red strongly suggests that there was no connection between the powers.

There was no real closure as to the final fate of the Ninja Zords and the Shogun Zords. Where exactly are they?

Argument #1
In A Zeo Beginning, Tommy stated the following:

"Now that Ninjor is back at the temple, and the Zords are gone, we're gonna need help."

Conclusion
This is the only mention ever made as to what happened to the Ninja and Shogun Zords. How exactly they came to be "gone" is a matter of speculation, but presumably it had something to do with Master Vile's manipulation of time. Whatever the case, the Zords are clearly inaccessible, whether they are operational or not.

Was there a relationship between Divatox and Dimitria?

Argument #1
The answer to that question was implied when Divatox was purified in Countdown to Destruction. If you noticed, she had on the same white dress and almost the same hair style as Dimitria and definitely could pass as Dimitria's twin sister.

Conclusion
There were very strong suggestions for concluding that Dimitria and Divatox were indeed sisters - being played by the same actress, the focus on their rivalry, the fact that Dimitria's sister was missing, and finally, Divatox's resemblance to Dimitria after being purified. Although it cannot be definitively proven, it seems safe to assume that they were sisters. It is clearly the direction that arc was going, and nothing contradicts it.

What has become of Dragonzord? Should he still be useable?

Argument #1
The Dragonzord, remember, is Definitely the most powerful Dinozord. I'd be willing to bet that the Dragonzord has it's own power source. Because if the Green Ranger's power was connected to the Morphing Grid, in "Green With Evil", why didn't Zordon just cut off his power? He couldn't. Green Ranger's power wasn't with the Grid, before he joined the Rangers. It was with Rita.

Counterpoint
Green Ranger's powers not being connected to the Morphing Grid doesn't necessarily mean that Dragonzord had it's own power source. Moreover, it has been suggested that even evil forces draw power from the Morphing Grid, such as Lord Zedd.

Argument #2
It seems that the Dragonzord needs the Green Ranger's Power Coin to work, but that can't be true. If the Green Coin was needed to fuel the Dragonzord, then, in "Green No More", when the Green Coin was finally gone, why did the Dragonzord suddenly rise up when the Evil Green Ranger called him in "Return of the Green Ranger"? Logically, if the Dragonzord ran out of juice, then it probably would never be able to recharge. That's why the Rangers NEVER fight with their Zords up until they run out of juice. The Reason? If they did, they they could accept no more power, like taking the rechargeable batteries out of a toy car. No power, the batteries cease to exist. No batteries, no recharging.

Counterpoint
The Dragonzord has to have it's own power source. Otherwise, when the Green Ranger's coin ran out of power, the Dragonzord would not be able to have been resummoned. Now, I don't know what it was running off of, maybe it stores Morphin energy. But we all know that the Dragonzord could run for 12 hours, wheather or not the Green Ranger was morphed, because we have seen the Dragonzord roaming around with Tommy unmorphed. So, the only purpose Green Ranger serves is to call the Dragonzord, and give it ideas in a fight, because the Dragonzord, I guarantee you, is not getting commands for "Arm swipe" and such, so Green Ranger must only be giving fighting hints. If Green Ranger called him, and he then lost his power, Dragonzord would have 12 hours, or until he returned to the sea, to fight.

Counterpoint
Zordon said it himself in "The Mutiny":
"Just as Tommy's powers periodically fail him, so it shall be with the Dragonzord"
This suggests that DragonZord is connected with the power of the Green Ranger. As long as the Green Ranger's Power Coin held power, so did the DragonZord

Counterpoint
Actually, this only suggests that Dragonzord is powered by whoever is using it. Of couse if Green Ranger's power failed him, they would fail his Zord as well. But who is to say a different pilot couldn't power him? In fact, he did have a different pilot once, Goldar. I really doubt that Dragonzord was running on the Green Ranger's power while under Goldar's control.

Argument #3
Dragonzord would not have been able to be summoned in Return of the Green Ranger if he didn't have his own power source, because along with the Green Coin, the Dragonzord would have lost his ability to recharge. The Green Power Coin was the DragonZord's power source. In Return of the Green Ranger, the Wizard of Deception restored the Green Power Coin, so that the evil Green Ranger could enter the Command Center undetected. (This was seen on screen) By restoring the the powers of the Coin, the powers of the Dragonzord would also be restored.

Argument #4
The Clone Green Ranger's Power coin, since it wasn't destroyed, and is the most powerful of all coins, is the only thing with Grid energy left, so it could now be the Morphin Grid itself. Therefore, maybe the new "Morphin Grid" is sustaining the Dragonzord.

Argument #5
The simplest explanation seems to be that Dragonzord is powered by whoever is using it. When Tommy controlled it, it ran off the Green Ranger's power coin. When Green Ranger's power failed, so did Dragonzord. With The Dragon Dagger in Goldar's possession, Dragonzord was powered by Goldar. In Tommy's clone's possession, it was powered by whatever powered the clone.

Conclusion
Dragonzord draws its power from the Dragon Coin. Not mecessarily continuously, but recharges from it. A fully charged Dragonzord can run on his own regardless of whether there's an active power source, and can be controlled by whoever has the Dragon Dagger. However, if the Dragon Coin were to become utterly destroyed, Dragonzord would eventually run out of power and become forever inoperable. Supporting quote:

Kimberly: What about Tommy? Will his DragonZord be able to go through another fight?
Zordon: The DragonZord must now conserve what energy it has left. Just as Tommy's powers periodically fail him, so it shall be with the DragonZord.

How did Adam morph in Always a Chance?

Argument #1
I've still always stuck to my theory that he used his original Mastodon Coin. As I remember, when the Thunderzords were destroyed, the Rangers lost their powers due the Morphin Grid overloading and becoming unstable. It's a perfectly acceptable theory that, over time, the Morphin Grid could've begun to stabilize, or recharge, allowing Adam to morph again in Power Rangers in Space. The Grid still wasn't completely stable though, which is why Adam was risking his safety when he morphed. If, indeed, Adam did morph without any form of Coin whatsoever (which I didn't think was possible - the Morpher would just be a useless box without it), then that makes me wonder about Return Of An Old Friend. If the Rangers could've still morphed without their Coins, why didn't they still morph to get their Coins back from Goldar, as opposed to re-recruiting Tommy and the unstable Green Ranger powers? Either way, they would've been risking themselves, but I think that five Rangers would've had a better chance of getting the Coins back than one.

Argument #2
If we take a look strictly at canon material, there is strong evidence to support the existence of two sets of Power Coins: the Dino-Coins and the Ninja-Coins. First off, there is the fact that the Rangers were given new Coins by Ninjor when they journeyed to the Temple of Power. There is also the fact that Adam used a damaged Mastodon coin when he morphed into the Black Ranger in Always a Chance, hence the "Mastodon" morphing call. While we know that the Ninja-Coins were destroyed when the Rangers attempted to use them to transform back into teenagers, we were never given an explanation as to the fate of the original Dino-Coins. We do know that the Morphing Grid was overloaded during the Rangers' battle with Rito, and that as a result of that overload, the Rangers' powers and Thunder Zords were disintegrated. Given what we know about the connection between the Morphing Grid and the Rangers' powers, it is conceivable that the overload of the Grid did not destroy the Rangers' original coins (which was assumed) but instead simply destroyed the power they had been embued with while damaging them in the process (hence Adam's use of the Mastodon coin in Always a Chance). At the time of Always a Chance, the Morphing Grid had not been actively used as a power source since the destruction of the Rangers' original powers, which lends support to the claim that Adam's coin was without power.

Conclusion
Adam used the Mastodon Power Coin, which was never shown to be destroyed. It was his Ninja Power Coin which was destroyed by Goldar. The coin was shown in the Morpher, with damage, and apparently had enough energy to sustain another morph.

When did Lost Galaxy take place?

Argument #1
When Power Rangers Lost Galaxy was promoted as being in the "not too distant future", it was assumed that it took place anywhere from 3-8 years after Power Rangers in Space. After all, a space station had been built, and the Astro Megaship had become a museum. it could not have been too long however, since Bulk, Skull, and the Space Rangers were still around, and did not seem much older. Then Lightspeed Rescue came around. No date was ever specified for it, and the team up established that PRLR did occur after PRLG. Then everything was thrown for a loop in Time Force. Time Force specifically took place in 2001, and they teamed up with the Lightspeed Rangers. With this definitive year set, we can now backtrack, and conclude that PRLG did not take place in a "not too distant future", but in 1999, the year in which it aired.

Counterpoint
The only problem I have with the series taking place in the years of airing is that Joel and Miss Fairweather were about to go on their honeymoon in the PRTF/PRLR team-up. I don't think that they just got married over the span of a few months, considering that their first date was after "The Fate of Lightspeed". I think that they must have been going out for almost a year before they got married. Not to mention that Dana was suddenly a doctor. I dont remember a whole lot about Lightspeed Rescue, but wasnt she trying to get into Medical School when the finale came around? If she was just trying to get in, and in Time for Lightspeed was a doctor, There had to have been a big length of time between PRLR and PRWF.

Counterpoint
As far as Dana's medical degree, and Joel's marriage, they didn't need as much time to occur as it would in our world. Power Rangers takes place in an idealized world, where things are much simpler. Cities can rebuild in the blink of an eye. Space stataions can be built overnight. The good guys always win, and the hero always gets the girl. It's just the way the things work in this universe. Don't try to judge things using our own world as a basis. It just doesn't work.

Argument #2
Since there was never anything suggesting that PRLR happened the year after PRLG, they might both have been in the year 2000. They may have reconfigured the Dark Fortress into Terra Venture, which I think could have been done within a year with the help of the Rangers and the Karovians. The Galaxy Rangers could have chased Trakeena to Earth right after Journey's End, meaning that PRLG and PRLR overlapped, with PRLG ending halfway into PRLR's run. Also, Countdown to Destruction may have happened anywhere between late 1997 and late 1998, since dates were never really specified after the original Turbo Rangers' graduation (I may be mistaken about this). Within this timeline, everything is given ample time to develop, and it still could have happened before PRTF's 2001 timeframe.

Argument #3
PRLG, PRLR and PRTF happened at the same time, PRLR/PRLG teamup happening only a month after PRLG ended. At this point PRTF had begun and by the end of PRLR it was already up to the Quantum Ranger's appearence. PRLR's rangers had enough time to settle into their lives again before being called back.

Counterpoint
That's overcomplicating things. I think at this point we need to start taking things at face value and assume that all series took place in the years they aired. There is nothing to contradict this.

Argument #4
I personally think that each Power Rangers series/season takes place in the year that it is shown on televison. Now the whole Lost Galaxy mess can be explained very simply: after Countdown to Destruction the other alien cultures (Aquitians, Triforians, Eltarians, ect) gave Earth help by enhancing it's technology in order to fully give humans the ablility to be part of the federation of good or as a gift for providing the Power Rangers and stopping the Alliance of Evil. Anyway, they received a boost in technology that the government used to increase it's power and ability to explore. Terra Venture was the GSA's use of this new technology and the Aquabase is the military's use of this technology. (I'm thinking the Aquitians helped with the Aquabase and the Eltarians/Triforians helped with Terra Venture.) anyway that will explain the timeline better...I hope.

Conclusion
Each series took place in the year it aired. There is nothing to contradict this.
