Why did they bring Rita back?
 

Zedd was much better as a solo villain and more bad ass. Rita should have never been brought back as a character. At least not full time.

I loved that she came back. She was even better since Carla Perez did such a great job. No disrespect to Soga, but rellying in the footage for dubs was more limiting. And not really possible once they ran out of footage. It was smart to hire an American Actor to play the role.

I think the plan was that they were always planning on bringing Rita back they probably just didn't know how to bring her back and then they likely decided to use her to soften Zedd by the 2 of them marrying due to the constant complaints that they were getting from Parents about kids being too afraid of Lord Zedd.

Why did they want to bring her back? I don't know maybe they didn't want all of the main villains from Season 1 to be completely gone but I do recall hearing that they had promised Barbara Goodson that Rita would return so that she could continue doing her voice.

It does make you wonder what a great villain Zedd could have been if they didn't water him down with Rita. Of course he did still do some pretty dark things. Like the arc where he takes Kimberly prisoner and tries to drain the Pink Energy and her life away from her.

yup Zedd did a lot of dark stuff when it was just him.

1. Nearly destroyed the Dinozords
2. Created Primator which made things hard for the Rangers when fighting him
3. Cast a spell over a jealous Kimberly to increase her jealousy over Trini regarding the club thing
4. Kidnapped Tommy to steal the Sword of Power
5. Drained Tommy's Green Ranger powers
6. Kidnapped 4 Rangers and tried to drain their powers
7. Kidnapped Kimberly and tried to turn her into his new Rita
8. Kidnapped Ninja Students and Mr. Anderson and tried to turn them evil
9. Brainwashed Rocky into just wanting to have fun
10. Almost succeeded with his plan of Adam losing all of his confidence due to the Mirror of Regret
11. Tricked the Rangers into fighting old monsters that weren't truly there.
12. Turned back time so the Rangers wouldn't remember who they were.

It's kind lf wierd how he hated Rita so much yet tried to make Kimberly into another Rita to have a perfect mate.

I think it was more Goldar being used to working under Rita and figured thats what evil witches were supposed to act like.

I'm glad they did. Lord Zedd was getting too scary and they needed Rita to lighten him up.
