Rocky should have become the leader in MMPR.

Rocky should have become the leader when he joined the team. Since he was Red Ranger and Tommy was more of a loner. Rocky was a better character anyway.

Anyone 's better then Tommy leading.

Tommy was already leader after he became White Ranger. Why give a comp!etely new Ranger leadership just because he happens to be the Red Ranger?

We saw why that was a bad idea when they made Wes the leader of Time Force for no reason.

Re: Rocky should have become the leader in MMPR.

Giving a newcomer the leadership position on the team is always a mistake. First, Rocky, Adam and Aisha did not have any powers, arsenal or Zords or whatsoever prior to becoming Power Rangers. With that said, giving Tommy the team leader was the right decision since:
1. He already had Ranger knowledge, history and battle experience, so he knew what to expect and what not to expect from Zedd and later, Zedd & Rita.
2. He knew when to make a certain decision during battle and how to make it all work - for most of the time (which didn't exactly turn out the best in "Ninja Quest", but still).
3. Kimberly wasn't exactly the leader type. She even had trouble keeping up with her preparations for the Pen Globals and with her Ranger duties at the same time. The "Wild West Rangers" thing was just something that she got caught in and had to be resourceful, quick-thinking and organized on-spot to make things work.
4. Billy was the tech guy. Making him the leader would take away the tech support that even Zordon and Alpha needed. So him giving up his Ranger spot actually worked for both him and the two in Zeo.

As for Wes, I think the Timeranger footage dictated who would be the team leader. Plus it worked for that season, since Wes is Alex's ancestor and could unlock the Chrono Morphers.
And it's not like Wes didn't live up to the role, since Alex acted like a jerk when he tried to replace him and get the 4 Rangers to just ditch him, only to see the 4 wanting Wes back.

correct about Tommy but both of you are wrong about Wes since he was not the leader now would you call him a battle commander or field leader? Yes that'd be more appropriate but the others even Wes himself would've referred to Jen as their leader... at least earlier on in the season but they all saw him (Wes) as their leader for the Dragontron mission.

As much as I loath White Ranger Tommy, givening the leadership to Rocky would have made no sense. The only other choices were Billy and Kimberly.

Re: Rocky should have become the leader in MMPR.

Thats right, Jen was the leader. Wes just took charge in battle a lot because of the sentai footage. Which is funny since TimePink was leader too in Timeranger. Toei can't resist having the Red act like the leader, even when they aren't.

In universe, the Red Powers were originally designed for the team leader. So it was natural for Wes to look like the leader in battle.

Don't forget Adam. Who would have been the best choice.

he wouldn't have been a good choice when he became a Ranger since he was a newbie and inexperienced.

Adam and Rocky were newbies so Tommy was a good choice. Billy isn't a leader

Re: Rocky should have become the leader in MMPR.

But Adam was a cool Ranger and a natural leader . It didn't matter if he was new. He would have been a great leader right off the bat.

Maybe he wasn't ready at the time. But he could have been a leader in Zeo. As we saw during the Alien Ranger Saga.

still a newbie and inexperienced. Being cool is irrelevant.

Re: Rocky should have become the leader in MMPR.

I think Tommy being the leader was the obvious choice in this case. Rocky never gave me the impression of being a leader, well not in MMPR, he was new to the team whereas Tommy, BIlly and Kimberly had experience.

To change things up in Zeo would of been a bit pointless, wouldn't really be good for Zordon to demote Tommy, Jason was only demoted as Austin St. John had left/was leaving.

Austin did 2 more episodes after White Light before he had left so technically during filming it would've been "was leaving" but by the time they got to the ADR he had already left.

Intersting information. I wonder after the filming/the doing of ADR of which episodes did Walter and Thuy leave, because I've read or heard somewhere that "Opposites Attract" was the final episode either the full trio or just a member of the trio was present at the filming of?

that was stated to be the last episode that the 3 of them had filmed together and of course the very next ep is when they mentioned about the Peace Conference

Rocky didn't really become interesting until Zeo. But I wouldn't call him a leader then either.

Re: Rocky should have become the leader in MMPR.

From i remember from watching various panels on YouTube is that the line was changed from "so Power Rangers i assume you are pleased with new member of the power team" to "so Power Rangers i assume you are pleased with new leader of the power team" in ADR because of Austin leaving.

I'm sure as negotiations were on-going that they had ADR plans for both outcomes of the contract talks.

Although i'm sure Austin said in one panel that he told them he was quitting but would stay on to film the episodes that re-introduced Tommy first.

Either way that whole run of episodes up till The Power Transfer had comical dubbing moments, i would of have assumed in some cases they'd have used old ADR for the morphed fight scenes at least.

Yeah thats why Jason smiled after Zordon basically told him he was demoted lol.

Re: Rocky should have become the leader in MMPR.

I think the problem they had making Rocky the leader was he was new to the team and despite the fact Tommy had just returned, Zordon saw Tommy as a natural leader since he was one of Jason's two best friends and the type which everyone would follow. Kim and Billy shared the second-in-command position from what I saw on the show until she left.

I think some people are confusion favorite charactes with goor leaders. Not every character is a good leader.

Besides, there is no way Tommy wasn't gonna be the leader. He really should have been after his first return.

Re: Rocky should have become the leader in MMPR.

Rocky was more of a supporting character. He was a reliable friend but I wouldn't call him a leader.

Re: Rocky should have become the leader in MMPR.

Most already know this but I am not a fan of Tommy. I am just simply stating a fact. He was the logical Ranger due to Rocky's inexperience.
