I think Skyla's people gave the Wind and Thunder Acadamies their powers. It makes sense since she used herself to create Shane's battlizer. Also the Wind Acadamy had the power to send young Kiya into Space. It seems like they may have known about some society their. Kiya was able to use this information to survive on the outskirts, ally with dark ninja's under his new idenity as Lothor. Persumably marry Marah and Kaphri's biological aunt.

Maybe Ninjor was one of Skyla's people. She said they change forms. Perhaps Ninjor's robot form was his form when he got to the next level. It would tie this discussion together.
