Marvel Comic's Fantastic Four to become Power
Rangers! (And Spider-Man becomes the Masked Rider too!) Not a Hoax!

Marvel
plans to go all-out early next year when they introduce the Marvel
'Mangaverse', in an eight-issue 'Fifth Week' event this coming January.
Marvel
Comics has had a little experience with Manga-versions of their
characters. A few years back the publisher released translated U.S.
reprints of the original Japanese Spider-Man and X-Men manga series,
and this fall's U.S. War Machine limited series by Chuck Austen has a
heavy manga influence. But Marvel will go all-out early next year when
they introduce the Marvel 'Mangaverse', in an eight-issue 'Fifth Week'
event this coming January.
Editing
by Ralph Macchio, Brian Smith and Joe Quesada, the concept will be
overseen creatively by publisher/creator Ben Dunn of Antarctic Press,
home of titles like Ninja High School and Warrior Nun Areala.
Dunn
reports he's currently plotting the first issue and getting read to
draw it as well (plans are for him to do the same for the last issue),
and that he, along with his Marvel editors - will oversee the design
and story elements for the series, which will compromise one "major"
continuing story arc the runs throughout the eight issues, all released
in January. Various other creators will work on the six issues between
Dunn's 'bookends', though he and Marvel were not ready to divulge any
names this soon.
"What
I am basically doing is creating the Marvel Universe as if Manga
artists had created it," explained Dunn, who plans to incorporate the
following characters in the storyline, and maybe more pending approval:

SUPER SENTAI FANTASTIC FOUR -- AWESOME!!!
COMBAT MECHA IRONMAN
MASKED RIDER SPIDERMAN -- EVEN MORE AWESOME!!!
X-MEN LEGACY

Dunn, "Currently I am writing the plot and re-designing the Hulk as he
was originally a good guy but now has to be written as the antagonist.
I am very excited about this and hope to create a new look and feel to
the Marvel characters I grew up with and got me into the comics biz."
"What's
exciting about this is that January is traditionally a month when
publishers have little to no major offerings," said Quesada. "This
January Marvel is loaded for bear!"

Saban to kick off 2002 with the debut of Wild Force
and the Tenth Anniversary Power Rangers Celebration!
The cat's
finally out of the bag....GaoRangers is set to morph into Power
Rangers Wild Force
in 2002.
While the logo, posters and such will be uploaded tonight, I couldn't
resist telling the fans the scoop.
I must say Saban's promotional items this years are 10 times more
kick-ass, and the Power Rangers 2002 promo video left me speechless.
It
looks like Wild Force might be teaming up with the first sentai series,
GoRanger as part of Saban's Power Rangers 10h Anniversary Celebration.
What Celebration you say? Well, lets just say "Power Rangers - Ten
Years and Growing Strong" was plastered all over the Saban booth in a
cute little logo. It looks like Saban's really pumped for this one!

Fox Family Channel and the Power Rangers May Be on
the Auction Block

Has
Rupert Murdoch found a way out of buying the one thing he doesn't want
to acquire right now: Fox Family Channel?
Fox Family head Haim Saban on Monday gathered his department chiefs and
told them that within three to six months they would have a new boss,
and that it would not be Murdoch's News Corp., which has been expected
to assume full control of the channel.
According
to multiple well-placed sources within Fox Family, Saban said that
Viacom, AOL Time Warner and Disney each have been approached about
buying the channel in its entirety. All three media giants already own
competing properties: Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and the Disney
Channel, respectively.
Spokespeople for the three companies declined
comment, as did a Fox Family spokeswoman.
Saban,
chairman and CEO of Fox Family Channel's parent company, Fox Family
Worldwide, issued a release in December announcing that he had
exercised his right to force News Corp. subsidiary Fox Broadcasting to
buy his 49.5 percent stake. Under the terms of the deal, Fox had to pay
a price based on the fair market value of the network as of Jan. 31,
2001. Saban has reportedly sought as much as $2 billion for his share.
Saban and Murdoch bought what was then known as the Family Channel from
televangelist Pat Robertson in 1997 for $1.9 billion.
The
contract calls for Saban and Murdoch each to retain an investment bank
to evaluate the company. If the price differed by 10 percent or less,
Murdoch was to pay the average of the two prices; if the two banks were
more than 10 percent apart, a third bank would be brought in to make
the final judgment on price.
The
specter of a forced purchase of the channel comes at a time when
Murdoch is once again deep in negotiations to acquire some portion of
satellite broadcaster DirecTV from GM's Hughes unit. Analysts have
speculated that buying Saban's Fox Family stake would leave Murdoch
short of the cash he needs for the DirecTV deal, so selling Fox Family
-- rather than buying out Saban -- would make sense.
For the quarter ended March 31, News Corp. reported
a loss of $13 million on its owned portion of Fox Family.
