Power Rangers To Go Animated In 2009?

by: Chris "PRangerX Zunis

A few months ago, Samuell Benta (  who protrays Will on Operation Overdrive and is a co-founder of Star Points Rangercast) claimed that Disney was considering making Power Rangers completely Animated in 2009. Which would be a major move that could change the face of the franchise forever.

There was a post at Rangercast talking about  how to get on the show as an actor . Benta pointed out that he that he though auditions were already done for Jungle Fury. Someone asked about 2009, and Benta brought up how 2009 Power Rangers might end up being animated.

I spoke to an  informed fan,  whose  sources seem to believe that animated Power Rangers  is a real possibilty (in 2009). Citing Disney's unhappiness with production costs. There is supposedly some sort of piolet presentation for the animated series. And this person confirms that Toei does not like the idea at all.  This person  does not know if the animated series is official or not. Just that there are rumblings about it.

It can't be  forgotten that it would be a major change from Power Ranger's format  Also a cartoon doesn't usually last  as long as a live action show. It is uncertian if it will spike or lower future toy sales. Plus, Toei aparently objects to the idea and Disney has a contract with them.   Which may be al egal problem.

Despite the risks invovled,  Disney might be willing to switch to animation, and hope toy sales are high enough . Even if this moved eventually  ended, they would still have countless hours of televison to air in reruns. Plus they could  still sell toys and other merchandise. And it may just be the best way to keep the franchise alive, in their eyes.

Animated Power Rangers is actually not a new concept. As Ron Waserman unintentionally leaked such information out earlier in the year. Claiming a friend was working on  some effects for a possible animated version of Power Rangers.

Starpoints Rangercast is a Message Board created for Power Rangers fans to intereact with actual cast and crew of the show. It has no association with Disney or Power Rangers. It was founded by Starpoint's owner (Mesh) and Samuell Benta.

( I apoligize for taking so long to write this story but  I kept talking to fans with different insights and kept putting off  posting this. I had to edit this a few times and actually had a draft done weeks ago. One PR fan I talked to did not want to be quoted , even without givening his name. So I had to leave his insights out of  the article).
