The season began as Rita plotted another plan to destroy the Power Rangers when her master Lord Zedd arrives. He stripped her of her powers and sent her off into space in an interglactic dumpster for her failures. Zedd took command of Rita's former henchmen from  his command chamber, which was located in Rita's castle. He created a monster called Purantishead from a Purantis. The Rangers went to fight the new monster. Zedd immidiatly made it grow. The Rangers called on their dinozords ( except for Tommy) and Purantishead freezed them( he has the power to control all machines). Tranasuarus got away and Purantishead took control of it. The other Dino Zords were sent underground by Zedd and damaged by lava. Tommey called his Dragonzord but it to is taken over by the monser as well. The Rangers went back  to the cCommand Center and learned of new zords called Thunder Zords. Jason would take control of the Red Dragon Thunderzord.  Zack would receive the Lion Thunderzord, Kimberly would get the  Firebird. Trini recieved the the Griffin Thunderzord. Billy was given the   unicorn thunderzord.  Tommey could not recieve a zord because of his powers being too low.

Zordon than told the Rangers had to  get control of the Tranasuarus and Dragonzord in order to summon their new Thunderzords. Billy and Trini then went to make  a jamming device to get control of the zords. Meanwhile Bulk and Skill were in a bike race and Purantishead made their bikes run wild and out of control. The Rangers fought Zedd's new Z putties and defeated them by hitting the Z on their chests. Finally Billy completed his device and the Rangers regained control of their zords. All the damage zords were  salavaged and  used to give physical form to  the Thunder Zords. The Rangers summoned their Thunder Zords and formed the Thunder Megazord. They then destoryed  Prauntishead. Lord Zedd continued to fight the Rangers. The Rangers saved Bulk and Skull and restored their bikes to normal. Bulk and Skull went on a season long quest to find the idenities of the Power Rangers.

One of Zedds main goals was to cause Tommy to lose all his powers. After sending many monsters after him Tommy's powers started to wear thing. Using a new green crystal Zedd sent a new monster to drain Tommy's powers for good.  A future version of Tommy came to warn present Tommy that he was in  danger. Tommy later found out from out from Zordon that he had one fight left before he lost his powers for good. Tommy ended up going to Zedd's evil world. All his powers were soon drained by the evil monster Zedd sent. Goldar came to fight Tommey and the monster left. Goldar tried  to make the powerless  Green Ranger  surrender. He was about to scatter Tommey through time and space with a device. Tommey refused to give up and fought  Goldar  for the time device.Tommey defeated Goldar and took the time dvice. He summoned his future self and got a communicater from him so he could teleport back home . Meanwhile Zedd had used the green crystal to steal the other Ranger's powers and gave them to five evil teens. Tommey returned to Zedd's evil world  and  destroyed the green crystal. The rangers recieved their powers back, including Tommey. With one fight left the Green tanger jioned the other Rangers as they destoryed  Zedd's monster. Tommey said goodbye to the team (since he was going on vacation). The five evil teens were already teleported back to Earth with no memories of their experiance. The Rangers made friends with them.

Zedd later used the remains or the Green Candle to create five candles to  drain the rest of the Ranger's powers. Four of the Rangers were then  captured( all except Jason). Jason saved the day after feeling guilty because he didn't get the Green Candle to save Tommy's power when he originally lost them. Jason later found out Tommy didn't blame him for his loss of powers.

Soon after Alpha and Zordon mysteriously went to a secret chamber of the Command Center. Billy found it and found out they were making a new Ranger. Tommy was then mysteriously teleported somewhere. The Rangers stuggled against Zedd's Nimrod Monster, the zords were even damaged in battle. Zordon and Alpha returned and summoned the confused Rangers. Zordon quickly  introduced them to new the White Ranger. A white light  opened  in the Command Center and the White Ranger came down from it. Tommy revealed himself as the White Ranger. Zordon said that they made new powers for Tommy ( that were  made from the white light of goodness). The power could  never be stolen by evil. Tommy  was made the leader of the Power Rangers. He recieved a talking sword named Saba and a new Thunderzord called the Tigerzord. The Tigerzord combined with the Thunderzords ( without the Red Dragon Thunder Zord) to create the Megatiger zord. It defeated the Nimrod monster. Later the Rangers got Tor the Shuttlezord and were  able to form the Thunder Ultrazord. A youth peace conference was being selecting local youth to jion it and the Rangers wondered if one of them would be  picked

Three new teenagers, Rocky , Adam and Aishia come to Angel Grove around this time. They were champion Ninjas. Zedd tried to make them his evil team by having an evil snake bite them. The Rangers saved them but the new teens learned their identities.  They swore to keep the Ranger's identities secret and helped the Rangers on many occassions. The youth peace conference came to Angel Grove and Zedd captured the members  to make another evil team. The Rangers quickly saved them. The peace confrence later  selected Jason, Zack, and Trini to go  with  the peace conference. The Rangers were sent to  find the Sword Of Power so they  could transfer the powers of the  leaving Rangers  to three replacements. The replacements ended up being Rocky, Adam, and  Aishia. Rocky recieved the red ranger power. Aishia recieved the yellow ranger power. Adam recieved the black ranger power. The revamped Ranger team quickly won their first battle and the old Rangers departed.

The new Rangers settled in their roles and the team continued to defeat Zedd as always. Rita returned while Zedd was on his 100 year regeneration. She put a love potion in his  life energy and when he woke up he fell in love with her. They get soon got married despite Goldar's pleas to Zedd.. Despite this new  disadvantage the Rangers were always ready to defeat the new evil couple. Rita used the Wizard of Deception to create a new evil Green Ranger by cloning Tommy. The Power Rangers (save Tommey)  were sent to colonial Angel Grove (also could have been some paraellel universe created by the wizard). Tommy fought his clone and later defeated the wizard. The clone was now free to do what he wanted and helped Tommy fight off some monsters the wizard created in the past ( where the rangers were running for their lives and powerless ). The clone decided to stay in the past since their can only be one Tommy. Tommy than left with the other Rangers to the present and the wizard's magic wand gots destoryed for good.
