View Full Version : Turbo was doomed to fail

Its not a bug shock that so many PR fans hated it for so long. Especially at the time. Zeo is usually a fan favorite season. But Saban Entertainment had the misfortune of having to adapt Carranger after Zeo. Which was much sillier than Zyuranger could even be at times. Power Rangers wasn't duing the amount of original footage that they did in season 2 and 3. So there was no way around it.

Outside of the movie props they were able to recycle, the season was going to look inferior to Zeo. The unrresolved plot threads from Zeo also didn't help. And there was the big cast change and all the production drama. Turbo was just doomed from the start. And I didn't even mention Justin!

The original Turbos didn't even get a good send off. That made the cast change worse. Especially when they dropped the Mellenium Message plot to decide the successors. And why did Carlos and Ashley end up as Green and Yellow? When they were clearly being groomed to replace Tommy and Kat.Not to mention the fact they were no longer an item like in their debut episode.

I thought Turbo was great! It was the best since MMPR season 1. Divatox was a great villian. The Rangers powers were cool. Justin was one of my favs. I thought Turbo was a step up.

The funny part is thst no one even really critizes Turbo anymore. Everyone critizes the Kalish era instead. Funny how time heals all wounds.

Turbo was underrated at the time. The first half was the bad part. The second half with the new Rangers was much better. Justin wasn't as bad . He didn't get over focused on like he did in the first half. He also fit better with high school kids then college aged young adults.

The second half introduced us to the future Space Rangers. It also had the best finalie ever in " Chase Into Space" . Also it stabilized the ratind and led to them going up over the following years. Something Zeo failed to. Which is why the loose threads of Zeo weren't revisited..

Turbo was a drag after MMPR Season 3 and Zeo. It just didn't fit. Luckily it was followed by Space.

Yeah so much was wrong with the season. But at least we got "Chase Into Space".

Turbo sucked. I.can't believe they dropped the ball so bad. I stopped watching Power Rangers for years after that. And only really came back for DinoThunder.

Turbo was too Sentai I think. Thats why American fans didn't like it as much. The movie was actually pretty good.

It only failed when it strayed from Carranger. Thankfully it kept lot of Carranger. Which I think is an underrated Sentai.

I used to hate Turbo. But since I have been watching a lot of Sentai I am growing to like Carranger. I have so much more to watch.

Carrranger was just too silly. Thats why Turbo failed creatively. Making it more like Carranger would have made things worse.

I never got to see Carranger. Turbo did seem strange at the time though. Especially after Zeo. It was crazy how they wrote off the whole cast midway through. Those talking cars were weird too.

Turbo saved Power Rangers. People just think of Turbo's first half when they think of Turbo. Its the second half that really matters and really redeemed any mistakes of the first half. Justin was even better written. And the future Space Rangers were perfectly fleshed out. Even with the hard circumstances of having to replace the fan favorites cold.

The first half was better. At least it had the old Rangers. Even if Justin didn't fit.
