Lost Galaxy Rangers and the Astro Megaship Question

Was there ever a reason in the show to why the Lost Galaxy Rangers could not use the Astro Megazord which was available to them most of the time? I mean there were moments where that could have been useful like that battle with Trakeena's ship. I know that Sentai footage couldn't allow this to happen but within the show, was there ever an explanation? Could the ship only turn into the Megazord only if the Space Rangers were piloting like it's only coded for them or something?

They can never form the complete Megazord without everyone involved. DinoThunder tackled this issue with "A Star Is Torn" and Kira's lack of the helmet and chest-thingy for the Megazord, despite the fact that the Tyranno and Tricera Zords make up 99% of the thing. It needs that helmet to be at full power!

As others have said, the Galaxy Rangers never had the Megashuttle. Bear in mind that the Megaship itself was treated as a decrepit-conditioned museum/relic on board the Terra Venture when Kai hijacked it.

It would have been cool if they could have used it the first few episodes. Until they figured out how to use the Galactabeasts as zords.

The Astro Shuttle was diffinitly not there.The Space Rangers must have brought it back off screen in the team up. Most likely they used it as transportation to get to Terra Venture.

They needed the Mega Shuttle in order to activate the Megazord sequence which is why the Galaxy Rangers never wound up using it.
They actually could've easily shot original footage of the Astro Megazord fighting if they ever wanted to but they chose not to do that until the teamup.

that's factually incorrect. There's a few instances of not all 5 Rangers being involved in the Astro Megazord sequence following them getting their Mega Vehicles.
Also whether the whole team needs to be inside of the cockpit to be at full power is unknown since that's a different Megazord in comparision to the Thundersaurus Megazord.

because they actually had the suit which is something that I can't say for a lot of seasons when it comes to the zords... not to mention Galaxy did have a few scenes of original zord footage to begin with anyway.

1. Defender Torozord trying to break Destruxo's barrier (yes most of this was Gingaman footage but they shot some original footage of it as well)

2. Loyax vs Galaxy Megazord (yes most of this was Gingaman footage but they still shot some original footage of it)

3. Astro Megazord and Galaxy Megazord vs Psycho Pink = all original footage except for stock shots such as the Astro Megazord formation sequence and the cockpit shots.

4. Galaxy Megazord grabbing the crashing Terra Venture in the finale.
5. Stratoforce and Centaurus having new footage in The Lost GalactaBeasts.
6. Stratoforce and Centaurus fighting off the suicide Stingwingers which was original footage.
7. Defender Torozord holding open the portal so that they could escape the Lost Galaxy.

Also even though technically the GalactaBeasts themselves aren't zords they had a ton of original footage as well.

that wouldn't fly though since D.E.C.A. and Alpha could operate it without the Rangers.

remember the Clawhammer ep? the Rangers were tied to the planet's surface, Clawhammer was about to come by to have them for his 'meal' when the Astro Megazord gets activated due to D.E.C.A and Alpha activating it even though no one was in the cockpit since Alpha was on the bridge.

Maybe they used the megazord off screen?

Zordon had it programmed for only the Space Rangers to activate by their Alphas. The Galaxy Rangers didn't have the Black Box. And Alpha was programmed not to remember the codes. Since he wasn't with the Space team anymore. This was unlocked when the Space Rangers returned. But locked again once they were gone.
